Staying balanced during the holidays can actually be quite simple. By starting to implement healthy habits on a daily basis, you will set yourself up for long term success when it comes to your health goals.
Here are a few tips on how to stay balanced during the holidays.
1.) Rest. Rest is essential in balancing the mind and body. Allowing us to feel more energized and also less likely to get angry and impatient throughout the day. Getting a decent amount of sleep also keeps your hunger hormones balanced. When your hunger hormones are balanced, you are less likely going to crave those holiday sweets or binge on your favorite food.
2.) Drink spiced teas. Herbal teas are full of antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatory properties. The holiday season brings in the colder temperatures and so it is vital that we do all that we can to keep our body temperature regulated. This stabilizes blood flow, increasing circulation in the body, and also helps with digestion. When the digestion is balanced, the mind is balanced.
3.) Add in more whole foods. The idea of restricting the body from certain foods because they are labeled as “bad” typically prevents people from being able to make healthy choices long term. Start by practicing the “crowding out” method. Adding more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and even more hydrating beverages, such as coconut water and kombuchas; which are high in probiotics for your gut health!
